James T. Charnock, M.Ed.

With over 30 years of teaching experience at the elementary and junior high levels, I’m Mr. Charnock, a certified reading-language arts specialist and passionate educator. Throughout my career, I’ve authored numerous articles for teacher magazines and professional journals, sharing insights and strategies to enrich classroom experiences.

My Writing and Contributions

I’ve had the privilege of writing educationally oriented market products and serving as a featured writer and children’s book reviewer for The Reading Teacher, a national reading journal. Additionally, I was honored to serve on the Editorial Board of Language Arts, a prestigious national English journal.

Recognition and Speaking Engagements

My commitment to education has been recognized by former top students, who have honored me four times in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. I’m also listed in Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in America.

Beyond the classroom, I’ve spent over 30 years as a speaker at educational conferences and workshops, where I’ve shared my passion and strategies for teaching language arts.

I have been leading multiple state-accredited workshops for 23 years for the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers’ yearly “Programs for Teaching” educational conference, with topics such as:

  • Read-Aloud Picture Books: The Best of the Best
  • Paragraphing and Other Writings Made Simple
  • Geography Should Be Fun
  • So… You HAVE to Teach Art!?

Volunteer Work and Community Engagement

For over ten years,  I’ve proudly volunteered as the leader of a Philadelphia public school library team. I volunteer with The Friends of the Wissahickon as a Trail Ambassador and Structures Crew Member. Giving back to my community is one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey.

Author of The Creative Teacher

Drawing from my decades of experience, I wrote The Creative Teacher (offered herein) a guide filled with engaging activities in writing, public speaking, researching, dramatizing, and more. My goal is to make teaching language arts simple, effective, and enjoyable, in contrast to some of the overly complex methods used in the past.

Teachers who have read The Creative Teacher appreciate its clarity, energetic tone, and practical approach. If you’re looking to transform your language arts lessons into fun and impactful experiences, this book is a must-have for your teaching library.
