This is a different comment from most...for any book. One of several ways I judge the quality of a
nonfiction book, especially, is how quickly it goes onto Amazon as a re-sell--from $0.01 to a discount--from
previous owners who don't want to keep it. This phenomenon often happens within one month of publication
for most books. As of this writing in May, 2008, I observe that in the three years your LA book has been
copyrighted you have only ONE re-seller (it seems). Several advertisers do claim "Used-Like New,"
but when reading their fine print, one discovers they only sell brand new books--a little too disingenuous, if
not dishonest! Also, your MT. HOREB book--after 2-3 years of sales--seems to have no re-sellers either. What
does all this mean from my perspective? These books are keepers! Educators, which includes homeschoolers and
some college professors of teachers (so your LA book says), must find them a superb resource. I know I enjoy
my copy of the latter.

So, how is THIS for a different perspective from a fellow educator and fan? I also
attended one of your workshops/seminars and found it to be a very absorbing and enjoyable experience--and I
found that energy was transferred to my students when using your techniques.

James Charnock: His Mission

Here is a man with a fervent mission
to scorn the practice of wholesale
tradition.

He is quick to respond to traditional hype--
degrade it, dismiss it, and consider it
tripe.

Here is person, with his very own caste, who
tramples, convention--an iconoclast.

I can't say I fully agree with ALL the approaches in your LA book, but at least 80 percent. As you have
written, yes, you do easily lead the educator by the hand--a great help. Why didn't my college ed
professors make teaching writing and language arts as easy!? You also give teachers freedom in your
approaches--unlike my school district where we are forced to rigidly move in lockstep with the imposed
curriculum. How onerous that and how refreshing your techniques. Yes, I have your book.

I am a "floating" middle school and junior high art teacher. I am always looking for new ideas and
was directed to your site with "freebie" art ideas. I LOVE most of them and have used a couple
already. You stated that these ideas were only a sample of your repertoire--let's have more! (Sorry, I
did not buy your book, but I don't teach language arts.)

Jim, I find your colorful, but subdued, site not only attractive and easy to navigate, I also find your ideas
in writing and art so stimulating. I have had your book for over a year, been to one of your seminars, and
your ideas work! My students love the writing and research approaches you advocate, and find your art ideas
really neat. And yes, your percentage technique has helped my students tremendously. Give us more!

I really enjoyed your books immensely, but what really got to me was your poem under "In My
Opinion." It is incredibly beautiful and deeply touching. I cried upon reading it. To me your poem
expresses with great honesty the essence of your experience: that is, both the tragedy and the triumph of
your life, the courage and spiritual fortitude that saw you through the darkest of times, reshaping your life
into something of meaning and worth. For me, the simplicity of it is what makes your poem a work of art
because it paradoxically belies great depth of emotional rawness, while softening it with an easy flow of
rhythm nd rhyme.

Wink Jim, I am really impressed with your web site. As a former co-worker of yours, I know of your talent for
teaching. I'm glad to see that you are sharing your expertise with others.

James, I have attended two of your seminars at the two day session at the Feb Phila PFT confrence. I have
read your book several times and tried several writing assignmants and other ideas. I usually read it late
summer and review it durring the school year when I get frustrated. I am looking forward to your next
event.Blessings Dan
